1957年，蔡继有先生在香港创办新华集团，经营海产捕捞、加工及分销业务，成功开拓及获得多种类食品在香港、东南亚及北美洲的经销权，在香港海产界声誉超卓，被誉为“海产大王”。
1976年，蔡冠深博士出任集团主席，带领员工将新华发展成为一家业务多元、拥有五家上市机构的大型跨国集团。如今，新华业务横跨海产食品、地产建筑、金融财务、高新科技、传媒文化、教育培训、基础建设和环保大健康等八大领域，投资网络广及中国内地、港澳，以及日本、越南、缅甸、柬埔寨、新加坡、加拿大、欧洲、美国及澳大利亚等国家和地区。
蔡冠深博士，大紫荆勋贤、外交之友、太平绅士。祖籍广东中山，香港新华集团主席、新华科技集团主席、新华传媒集团主席、在多伦多上市的新华国际金融集团主席及在香港上市的新华汇富金融集团主席、越南VinaCapital集团主席。
蔡博士是十三、十四届全国政协常委，全国工商联合会常委、中华海外联谊会常务理事、粤港澳大湾区企业家联盟主席、香港特首顾问团成员、香港中华总商会会长、“一带一路”工商协会联盟共同主席、内地—香港“一带一路”工商专业委员会港方主席、环渤海企业家联盟主席、中印软件协会主席、中国香港以色列民间科技合作及促进中心主席、香港越南商会会长、香港韩国商会会长，他还应邀担任国家重要智库——当代世界研究中心理事会副主席，配合国家推动民间外交。
自2008年及2010年，蔡博士连续两届(46、47届)担任香港中华总商会会长，2016、2018年再度连续两届(50、51届)担任会长，2022年再次膺选中总第53届会长，是该会历史上首位担任五届的会长。蔡博士担任会长期间，团结并带领商界力量，立足香港，融合内地和联系世界。他亦积极运用自己在内地、香港以及国际的网络，为国家以及香港特区做了大量开创性的工作。
蔡博士亦为多间大学校董会或顾问委员会成员，包括复旦大学、南京大学、香港中文大学联合书院、香港科技大学、香港理工大学及澳门大学等。蔡博士40年来不断支持中国内地、港澳的科教文化公益事业，捐建多个科技教育机构、文化设施及慈善基金。他创办了中科院院士荣誉基金会、广东新华教育学院、凯时AG登录入口等。
2015年，蔡博士分别获越南国家主席颁发友谊勋章及韩国政府任命为韩国对外投资推广荣誉大使(2015-19)； 2017年2月获法国政府颁授法国艺术与文学军官勋衔及日本平成29年度外务大臣表彰。2019年1月获澳门特别行政区政府颁授教育功绩勋章；同月再获中国外交部驻港特派员公署授予“外交之友”荣誉。2022年获日本政府“旭日中绶章”。蔡博士还荣获香港特区政府授予大紫荆勋章、金紫荆星章、铜紫荆星章及太平绅士，以表彰他在公共及社会服务的贡献。
Corporate history dates back to 1957 when patriarch Choi Kai Yau founded SunwahGroup in Hong Kong as a seafood processor, wholesaler and distributor. It was from the trade and financial hub of Hong Kong that Sunwah expanded its food wholesale trade and distribution businesses in Southeast Asia and North America. Mr. Choi Kai Yau received his moniker as the "King of Seafood".
In 1976, Dr. Jonathan K S Choi, son of the Founder, assumed Chairman of Sunwah. Under his leadership, Sunwah's business expands and diversifies. Today, Sunwah is a highly diversified conglomerate with businesses in eight principal areas: Seafood & Foodstuff, Real Estate, Financial Services, Technology, Infrastructure, Media, Education and training, Green technology and healthcare. Activities cover extensively into Mainland China, Japan, Macau, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Singapore, Canada, Europe, the US and Australia.
Dr. Jonathan Choi is the Chairman of the Hong Kong-based Sunwah Group, Chairman of the Sunwah Hi-Tech Group and the Sunwah Media Group, Chairman of the Toronto-listed Sunwah International Limited, Chairman of the Hong Kong-listed Sunwah Kingsway Capital Group and Chairman of the Vietnam VinaCapital.
Dr. Choi's dedication and contribution to his home country and the society is evident in the wide range of public positions he holds. These include: Standing Committee Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference of the PRC, Standing Committee Member of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, Executive Director of the China Overseas Friendship Association,Chairman of the Guangdong-HK-Macao Bay Area Entrepreneurs Union,members of Chief Executive's Council of Advisers, Chairman of the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Co-Chair of the Belt & Road Industrial and Commercial Alliance, Chairman (HK) of Mainland China-Hong Kong Belt and Road Business and Professional Services Council, Chairman of the Bohai Bay Area Entrepreneurs Union, Chairman of the China-India Software Association, Chairman of the China Hong Kong Israel Technology Cooperation and Promotion Center, Founding Chairman of the Hong Kong-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce, Founding Chairman of the Hong Kong-Korea Business Council. Dr. Choi also bears important position in China's think tank. He is the Vice-Chairman of the World Contemporary Research Centre to co-ordinate national public diplomacy.
Served as the 46th, 47th, 50th, 51st and 53rd President of CGCC since 2008, Dr. Choi is the youngest and longest serving chairman of the Chamber. He steered the Chamber to enhance its position as an international trading platform. By utilizing his own international networks, Dr. Choi has done tremendous initiatives to foster economic exchanges and collaborations between Hong Kong, Mainland China and the world.
Dr. Choi is also the Court or Council Member of a number of universities, including Fudan University, Nanjing University, The United College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and The University of Macau. Over the past 40 years, Dr. Choi has supported various science and educational institutions, cultural facilities and foundations in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. He has founded the Choi Koon Shum Chinese Academy of Sciences Honorary Academician Foundation, the Guangdong Sunwah Education Institute, the Liaoning University Sunwah International Business School.
In 2015, Dr. Choi was conferred the “Friendship Order” by the President of Vietnam and became an Honorary Ambassador of Foreign Investment Promotion for Korea from 2015 to 2019 respectively. In February 2017, Dr. Choi was conferred the “Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters of France” by the French Government. In January 2019, Dr. Choi was awarded the Medal of Merit on Education by Macau S.A.R Government and was awarded an honor of “Friends of Diplomacy” by the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of P.R.C. in Hong Kong for his tremendous contribution on implementing non-official diplomacy, promoting Chinese culture to foreign countries. In November 2022, Dr. Choi was conferred The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon by Japanese Government. Dr. Choi has been awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal (GBM), the Gold Bauhinia Star (GBS) and Justice of the Peace (JP) by the HKSAR Government for his meritorious public and community service.
